Clacton Sea & Beach Festival
A new event is to be piloted in Clacton this summer to help pull in the visitors to the coast.
A Sea and Beach Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday July 4 and 5 with a host of activities and fun being lined-up over the two days.
The festival is being organised by Tendring District Council (TDC) and a programme is currently being drawn up.
It will include water-based activities and sports. There will be pleasure boat rides operating from West Beach for the first time in many years and a return of the Viking Saga is anticipated which will bring back memories for many people.
Music and entertainment and a beachside barbecue will be among the other attractions.
Mark Platt, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture, Events and Leisure said that it is something that the Council has been looking at for some time and everything is now coming together for this summer.
“We have a number of high profile events such as the Clacton Air Show with the addition of a food and drinks festival this year; the Women’s’ Tour; Tour de Tendring and many more,” he said.
“The idea of a Sea and Beach Festival was brought up and we have agreed with local businesses to fit this in at the start of July in order to have an event earlier in the summer season. We are confident it will prove very popular with residents and visitors alike.”
Cllr Platt said that the fun gets under way at 11am each day running right through to 5pm.
“Work is in the pipeline to pull together a full programme of activities and entertainment to suit all ages,” he added.
“We will be releasing further details of this exciting new initiative as we go along with full information available nearer the time.”
All activities will be organised from Clacton Pier up towards Martello Bay with the major £36 million Coastal Protection Scheme being carried out the other side of the pier up to Holland-on-Sea.
“There is so much happening in Clacton this summer and we have already opened up some of the newly recharged beaches at Holland-on-Sea,” said Cllr Platt.
“It really will be the place to visit and the Sea and Beach Festival will be an attractive addition to what we have on offer.
“So make sure you get July 4 and 5 into your diary now and come along over that weekend and enjoy the family fun.”
